Whether you want to use public transport or hire a car, Orvieto is easy to reach from both Rome airports. If you don’t like the idea of hiring a car or using buses you need have no worries when you land at Rome airport as you can do your entire journey by train.

There are several trains a day that take only 1h from Rome central station. On arriving at Orvieto station there is a pleasant 5 minute funicular ride that takes you directly from the station up to the historic centre of town. Alternatively, we can arrange private transport for you and your party. By car Orvieto sits conveniently just 10 minutes drive from the Orvieto exit of the main A1 motorway about an hour and a half drive from the airports.

Orvieto is centrally located on the Italian peninsula in the region of Umbria. It is conveniently situated close to the main A1 autostrada that links Rome and Florence as well as being on the central railway route with fast trains to many major cities.  There are frequent fast trains to Rome and Florence and by road it is easy to explore many of the major sights in Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio in a day such as Rome, Florence, Siena, Perugia, Assisi, Arezzo although a day is hardly enough to do them justice. As well as the larger cities there are many smaller gems to visit such as Todi, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza and Spoleto. With so much to see many people decide to add a few days before or after the wedding to take the opportunity to visit these exceptional cities and towns as well as exploring the lovely countryside which offers some of the most stunning scenery in Europe.

Orvieto is a small, compact city and  a delight to walk around.  Conveniently everything is within easy walking distance… hotels, churches, reception venues, restaurants, shops, museums etc. etc. Most of the town centre is closed to traffic and there are many picturesque streets and small alleys to explore.

There are numerous activities within easy reach of the town should you wish to go further afield. You could choose to have a wine tasting in one of the several wine cantine around or visit many of the beautiful hill-towns nearby. Wind-surfing and sailing on nearby lake Bolsena, tennis courts, local swimming pool, horse riding, hiking excursions, caving, bike hire. 

Shopping in the medieval streets of Orvieto is a pleasurable experience even for those who prefer to avoid shopping altogether.  Small, individual shops offer everything you may need in terms of gifts, ceramics, food and wine to the more useful items for every day needs
